The Firm

Maloney, Wheatley, Sopp & Brooks began in 1985 as the El Dorado County branch office of Sacramento law firm Hefner, Stark & Marois. Original members Bob Laurie and Brian Maloney soon decided to strike out on their own and joined forces with Bob Wheatley from Bullen, McKone, McKinnley, Gay, Keitges & Patch to form, Laurie, Maloney & Wheatley in 1987. They were soon joined in 1989 and 1992, respectively, by Keith Brooks and Richard Sopp from other prominent Sacramento law firms. Bob Laurie left the firm to accept an appointment from Governor Pete Wilson to the California Energy Commission, which ultimately prompted the name change to the current Maloney, Wheatley, Sopp & Brooks, LLP.

From its inception in 1987, the firm has maintained offices in both El Dorado County and Sacramento County to better serve our clients. Currently El Dorado County serves as the home office for Messrs. Maloney and Brooks, while Messrs. Wheatley and Sopp call the Sacramento County office home. Both offices are conveniently located and fully staffed. Meetings with any of the attorneys can be scheduled at whichever office is more convenient for the client.

Maloney, Wheatley, Sopp & Brooks has received Martindale Hubbell's coveted A-V® rating which is reserved for only those few law firms nationwide which have been found to afford their clients the highest level of service in both legal proficiency and ethical conduct.

Whether your particular matter involves litigation in State or Federal Court, formation of a new business, mediation or negotiation of the terms of an agreement, planning for the transfer of your estate to your heirs, or recovering fair compensation for an injury to you or a loved one, you can rest assured that Maloney, Wheatley, Sopp & Brooks will vigorously protect your interests and work hard to see that you enjoy the best possible result.
